Antibacterials for systemic use
- Dicloxacillin sodium is the sodium salt form of dicloxacillin, a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotic with bactericidal activity and resistance to beta-lactamases.
- It binds to penicillin-binding proteins located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. It also inhibits the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, an essential component of bacterial cell walls. This leads to the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis and ultimately causes cell lysis.
