Antivirals for systemic use
- Didanosine is an antiretroviral drug, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor.
- White or slightly white powder
- It is phosphorylated to an active metabolite, dideoxyadenosine triphosphate, ddATP, by cellular enzymes. Like other anti-HIV nucleoside analogues, it acts as an incorporation chain terminator and inhibits viral reverse transcriptase by competing with natural dATP.
