• Docetaxel is an alkaloid obtained by hemisynthesis from a molecule extracted from the leaves of the European yew tree.
• It acts by promoting the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules and inhibiting their depolymerization leading to a marked decrease in free tubulin. The binding of docetaxel to microtubules does not alter the number of protofilaments.
