• Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid used topically.
• White to off-white crystalline powder.
• It acts specifically as a glucocorticoid, or glucocorticoid receptor agonist, which is about five times more potent than cortisol. It has very little mineralocorticoid effect. The affinities of triamcinolone acetonide for androgen and estrogen receptors are both <0.1%, compared with testosterone and estradiol.
