Cardiac therapy
- Adenosine is an endogenous purine nucleoside that modulates many physiological processes. It is used to suppress accelerated heart rhythms.
- White or very pale yellow crystal powder.
- It causes transient heart block in the atrioventricular node. This is mediated by the A 1 receptor, inhibiting adenylyl cyclase, reducing cAMP and thus causing cellular hyperpolarization by increasing potassium ion efflux, subsequently inhibiting calcium ion current.
