• Amiodarone is a Vaughan-Williams class III antiarrhythmic drug.

• It delays the repolarization of the cardiac cell and lengthens the refractory period either by decreasing the amplitude of the action potential, without modifying the resting membrane potential or by increasing the duration of the action potential.
