• Atorvastatin calcium is an anhydrous calcium salt form of atorvastin, a synthetic lipid-lowering agent.
• It is a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, which catalyzes the reduction of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A. This is the rate-limiting step in hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis.
