• Balsalazide is an anti-inflammatory drug used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
• Yellow-orange crystal powder.
• It acts locally on the colonic mucosa where it decreases inflammation by blocking the production of arachidonic acid metabolites, including leukotrienes, prostaglandins and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids, and other inflammatory agents. Balsalazide disodium is used to treat chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
