• Sodium beraprost is a synthetic analogue of prostacyclin.

• As a PGI2 prostacyclin analogue, beraprost acts on vasodilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. It also inhibits platelet aggregation, although the role this may play in relation to pulmonary hypertension remains to be determined.
