Psycholeptics
- Galantamine Hydrobromide is the hydrobromide salt form of galantamine, an indirect parasympathomimetic belonging to the therapeutic class of cholinesterase inhibitors.
- White or very pale yellow crystal powder.
- It reversibly and competitively inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It potentiates the action of acetylcholine by preventing its degradation in the synaptic cleft. It thus has an indirect parasympathomimetic action since it potentiates the action of the parasympathetic nervous system while not binding to membrane receptors.
