• Candesartan cilexetil is a synthetic prodrug, derived from benzimidazole, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist with antihypertensive activity.
• White or Almost white crystalline powder.
• After hydrolysis to candesartan during gastrointestinal absorption, it selectively competes with angiotensin II for binding of the angiotensin II subtype 1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle, blocking angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and inducing vasodilation.
