• Cephalothin sodium is the sodium form of cephalothin, a semi-synthetic, beta-lactam, first generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity.
• It binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall, which are involved in the terminal steps of bacterial cell wall assembly, and cell wall remodeling during cell division. This leads to weakening of the bacterial cell wall and causes cell lysis.
