Muscle relaxants

• Alfuzosin hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of alfuzosin, a quinazoline compound with smooth muscle relaxant activity.
• It selectively binds to and antagonizes post-synaptic alpha-1-adrenoreceptors in the smooth muscles of the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, prostate capsule and prostatic urethra, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and improvement in urine flow and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
