• Clonidine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of clonidine, an imidazoline derivative and a centrally acting alpha-adrenergic agonist and antagonist with antihypertensive activity.
• White or Almost white crystalline powder.
• It binds to and stimulates central alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, thereby decreasing sympathetic output to the heart, kidneys and peripheral vasculature. The reduction in sympathetic output results in a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance, blood pressure and heart rate.
