• Diethylpropion hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine similar in structure to amphetamine and has anorectic activity.
• It stimulates the central nervous system and increases the release of norepinephrine and dopamine from the nerve terminals and inhibits their absorption. This suppresses appetite, increases motor activity, causes euphoria, mental alertness and excitement.
