• Donepezil hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of a piperidine derivative with neurocognitive enhancing activity.
• White or very pale yellow crystal powder.
• It reversibly inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It then potentiates the action of acetylcholine by preventing its degradation, it increases its concentration in the synaptic cleft. It is called an indirect parasympathomimetic because it potentiates parasympathetic transmissions without binding to membrane receptors.
