- Phenylephrine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of phenylephrine, a direct-acting sympathomimetic amine chemically related to epinephrine and adrenaline and with potent vasoconstrictive properties.
- A white or almost white crystalline powder. Freely soluble in water and in ethanol (96%).
- It is a post-synaptic alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist that causes vasoconstriction, increases systolic/diastolic pressures, reflex bradycardia, and stroke volume.
