• Ranitidine hydrochloride is a member of the histamine H2-receptor antagonist class with antacid activity.
• It is a competitive and reversible inhibitor of the action of histamine, released from enterochromaffin cells, at the histamine H2 receptors on the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby inhibiting normal and meal-stimulated gastric acid secretion.
