Antiemetics and antinauseants

• Dolasetron is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist.
• It blocks the activity of serotonin released from enterochromaffin cells in the small intestine by selectively inhibiting and deactivating 5-HT3 receptors located on the nerve endings of the vagus nerve peripherally and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the postrema area. This results in suppression of the signaling that triggers nausea and vomiting.
