API
N° CAS 41342-53-4
Antibacterials for systemic use
- Erythromycin ethylsuccinate is a salt of erythromycin. It is a macrolide antibiotic that has a similar or slightly broader antimicrobial spectrum than the penicillins.
- White or almost white crystalline powder, hygrscopic. Pratically insoluble in water, freely soluble in acteone, in anhydrous ethanol and in methanol.
- It prevents the growth of bacteria by interfering with protein biosynthesis. It binds with the 50S ribosomal subunit and thus prevents the translocation of peptides and the formation of polypeptides.
