- Fosfomycin sodium is the sodium salt form of fosfomycin, a broad spectrum antibiotic.
- It binds to and inactivates the enzyme enolpyruvyl transferase. This results in an irreversible blockage of the condensation of uridine diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine with p-enolpyruvate, which is one of the first steps in bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis.
