• Galantamine is an indirect parasympathomimetic belonging to the therapeutic class of cholinesterase inhibitors.
• Off-white solid
• It reversibly and competitively inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It potentiates the action of acetylcholine by preventing its degradation in the synaptic cleft. It thus has an indirect parasympathomimetic action since it potentiates the action of the parasympathetic nervous system while not binding to membrane receptors.
