• Ganciclovir is a nucleoside analogue that blocks viral DNA replication.
• White to off-white crystalline powder.
• Once in the infected cell, it is transformed into its active metabolite. This metabolite will either competitively inhibit viral DNA polymerases or will incorporate directly into the viral DNA, thereby stopping its elongation.
