- Levofloxacin hemihydrate is the salt hemihydrate of levofloxacin, a third-generation broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
- White or very pale yellow crystal powder.
- It diffuses through the bacterial cell wall and acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase, an enzyme required for DNA replication, RNA transcription and bacterial DNA repair. Inhibition of DNA gyrase activity results in a blockage of bacterial cell growth.
