Antihypertensives

• Prazosin hydrochoride is a sympatholytic that belongs to the alpha-blocker class.
• White to almost white crystalline powder. Very slightly soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol and methanol. Pratically insoluble in acetone.
• It acts as a reverse agonist at alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. These receptors are found on vascular smooth muscle, where they are responsible for the vasoconstrictor action of norepinephrine. They have also been found on immune cells, where catecholamine binding can stimulate and increase cytokine production.
