Antifungals for dermatological use

  • Ketoconazole is an antifungal agent of the imidazole group.
  • White to almost white powder. Pratically insoluble in water, Freely soluble in Methylene Chloride, soluble in methanol and sparingly soluble in ethanol (96 %).
  • It has a powerful antifungal action on dermatophytes (especially Trichophyton sp, Epidermophyton sp, Microsporum sp) and yeasts (especially Candida sp. and Malassezzia furfur (Pityrosporum ovale))
