Essential amino acid

• Isoleucine plays an important role in promoting protein growth in the body.
• White crystals or crystalline powder with a slightly bitter taste. Freely soluble in formic acid,sparingly soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol.
• Isoleucine is both a glucogenic and ketogenic amino acid. After transamination with alpha-ketoglutarate, the carbon skeleton is oxidized and split into propionyl-CoA and acetyl-CoA . Propionyl-CoA is converted to succinyl-CoA , an intermediate of the TCA cycle which can be converted to oxaloacetate for gluconeogenesis.
