Antivirals for systemic use
- Lamivudine is a nucleoside analogue active against human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis B virus.
- White or very pale yellow crystal powder.
- It is a cytidine analogue. It can inhibit both types of HIV reverse transcriptase and also the reverse transcriptase of hepatitis B virus. It is phosphorylated into active metabolites that compete for incorporation into viral DNA.
