  • Metformin is a normoglycemic biguanide antidiabetic drug.
  • White free flowing granules, Freely soluble in water, Slightly soluble in alcohol practically insoluble in acetone and in methylene chloride.
  • It can act by reducing hepatic glucose production, by inhibiting neoglucogenesis and glycogenolysis, or at the muscular level by increasing insulin sensitivity, by promoting the uptake and peripheral use of glucose, or by delaying intestinal glucose absorption.
