Corticosteroids for systemic use

• Methylprednisolone acetate is a corticoid of the glucocorticoid family.
• White to off-white crystalline powder.
• Their effects depend on their association with intracellular glucocorticoid receptors and mineralocorticoid receptors. Glucocorticoid receptors are widely distributed, in contrast to mineralocorticoid receptors which have a restricted tissue distribution. By this mechanism, ligand-bound receptors move to the nucleus and modulate gene expression.
