- Phenobarbital is a barbiturate drug used to control seizures in some cases of epilepsy.
- Its primary channel of action is the positive modulation of GABA type A receptors. It potentiates the action of naturally occurring GABA, while also acting as a direct agonist of its receptors. When activated, the latter have an inhibitory effect on the stimulation of target neurons.
