• Praziquantel is an anthelmintic effective on most pathogenic trematodes.
• White or Almost white crystalline powder.
• It increases the permeability of the parasite cell membranes for calcium ions. The molecule thus induces a contraction of the parasites resulting in paralysis in the contraction phase. Dead parasites are dislodged from their site of action in the host organism and may be released into the systemic circulation or destroyed by the host's immune response.
