Corticosteroids for systemic use

• Prednisolone succinate is a corticosteroid hormone and a hemisuccinate.
• As a glucocorticoid, the lipophilic structure of prednisolone allows it to readily cross the cell membrane where it then binds to its respective glucocorticoid receptor located in the cytoplasm. Upon binding, the formation of the GC/RGC complex results in dissociation of the glucocorticoid receptor chaperone proteins, allowing the complex to move into the nucleus. The complex binds to specific DNA binding sites.
