Corticosteroids, dermatological preparations

• Clobetasol propionate is a corticosteroid used to treat skin infections.
• White or almost white crystalline powder. Pratically insoluble in water, freely soluble in acetone and in methylene chloride and sparingly soluble in ethanol.
• Local corticosteroids have anti-inflammatory properties based on multiple mechanisms; they inhibit the late phase of allergic reactions, decrease mast cell density, chemotaxis and eosinophil activation, decrease cytokine production by lymphocytes, monocytes, mast cells and eosinophils, and inhibit arachidonic acid metabolism.
