- Erythromycin propionate is a salt of erythromycin. It is a macrolide antibiotic that has a similar or slightly broader antimicrobial spectrum than the penicillins.

- It prevents the growth of bacteria by interfering with protein biosynthesis. It binds with the 50S ribosomal subunit and thus prevents the translocation of peptides and the formation of polypeptides.
