• Montelukast sodium is the sodium salt of mantelukast.
• White or almst white hygroscopic powder. Freely soluble in water, methylene chloride and in ethanol (96%).
• It's in the leukotriene receptor antagonist family of medications. It works by blocking the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs resulting in decreased inflammation and relaxation of smooth muscle.
