Diuretics

• Spironolactone is an organosulfur compound of the steroid class.
• A white or yellowish white powder.
• It acts as a competitive antagonist of aldosterone, at the level of mineralocorticoid hormone receptors. By blocking sodium-potassium exchange in the renal tubule, it reduces sodium ion reabsorption and potassium ion excretion.
