• Albuterol sulfate is the sulfate salt of the short-acting sympathomimetic agent albuterol, a racemic 1:1 mixture of (R)-albuterol and (S)-albuterol with bronchodilator activity.
• White or almost white odourless powder
• It stimulates beta2-adrenergic receptors in the lungs, activating the enzyme adenylate cyclase, which catalyzes the conversion of ATP to cyclic adenosine monophosphate-3',5'. Increased concentrations relax bronchial smooth muscle, relieve bronchospasm and reduce the release of inflammatory cell mediators, particularly from mast cells.
