• Polymyxin B sulfate is an antibiotic used for many gram negative infections.
• White or almost white, hygroscopic, powder.
• It modifies the permeability of the bacterial outer membrane by binding to a negatively charged site in the lipopolysaccharide layer which will lead to a disruption of membrane integrity and inhibition of cellular respiration.
