Antifungals for dermatological use

• Terbinafine is an antimycotic used against dermatophytosis, especially onychomycosis.
• A white powder Soluble in methanol and in ethanol Slightly soluble in water and acetone
• Terbinafine inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, through inhibition of squalene epoxidase in the fungal cell membrane, as the squalene epoxidase enzyme is not linked to the cytochrome P450 system
