Antifungals for dermatological use

• Tolnaftate is a synthetic antifungal agent with a narrow spectrum.
• A white or yellowish white powder. Practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in acetone and in methylene chloride, very slightly soluble in alcohol.
• In vivo, its antifungal activity is mainly on dermatophytes, Aspergillus niger, Pityrosporum obiculare (agent of Pityriasis versicolor).
